Reimagining Flags for a Regenerative Future
We craft symbols of pride — rooted in sustainability, built with integrity, and designed to inspire a future where businesses and the planet grow stronger together.

Outsiders, Innovators, Believers
We weren’t flag makers. We were environmentalists, engineers, explorers — united by a conviction that better was possible.
It started in 2020, when Bart Elbertse was volunteering with the EarthFlag Foundation — an organization waving the flag for planetary health. But the flag itself? Made of polyester. Even the most inspiring movements were using symbols made from plastic. That moment sparked a question that wouldn’t go away:
“Why are all flags harmful to the planet?”
That question was the start of a wild ride — one that would take Bart from grassroots campaigns to hemp fields in the Himalayas. In 2022, Niek van der Kuijl joined the mission, taking the lead at building Hemptex. Together, they began to build something bold from the ground up.That question was the start of a wild ride — one that would take Bart from grassroots campaigns to hemp fields in the Himalayas. In 2022, Niek van der Kuijl joined the mission, bringing his systems-thinking mindset to the table. Together, they began to build something bold from the ground up.
Today, Hemptex® is raising the bar for what symbols of pride should stand for.
Our Mission is Simple and Profound
We want to transform the flag industry — and textile production beyond — through regenerative materials, fair collaboration, and lasting quality.
Our core values guide every decision we make:

A Regenerative Force in Agriculture
Hemp is one of the most sustainable crops on Earth. It thrives without pesticides, herbicides, or artificial fertilizers. It needs far less water than cotton, and it grows fast - often within 3 to 4 months.
But the impact goes deeper

Carbon Sequestration
Hemp captures more CO₂ per hectare than most commercial crops - up to 1.63 metric tons per acre*. Making it a powerful climate solution.

Soil Health
Its deep roots stabilize the ground, prevent erosion, and even draw out heavy metals and toxins through phytoremediation*

Water Efficiency
Hemp requires up to 75% less water than cotton and often relies entirely on rainfall*
